Ten Years After
Ten Years After, the British blues-rock quartet consisting of Alvin Lee (guitar and vocals), Chick Churchill (keyboards), Leo Lyons (bass), and Ric Lee (drums), was formed in Nottingham. Releasing their self-titled debut album in 1967, the group enjoyed a busy touring schedule around Scandinavia and the United States. A year later their second album, Live Undead, dropped, bringing the first Ten Years After classic, ‘I’m Going Home’, into the world.
In 1968, a six-minute blues workout by the fleet-fingered Alvin, hit the charts on both sides of the Atlantic. Then, in 1969, the Stonedhenge LP hit the UK Top Ten. Ten Years After’s US breakthrough came as a result of their appearance at Woodstock, where they played a nine-minute version of ‘I’m Going Home’.
Their next album, Ssssh, reached the US top 20, with the follow-up Cricklewood Green LP seeing further success, namely via the ‘Love Like A Man’ single that peaked at No.4.
In 1975 the band moved in a more mainstream pop direction, typified by the gold-selling album A Space in Time, including its top 40 single ‘I’d Love to Change the World’. Following a series of albums and career defining shows the group went their separate ways. 2013 saw the untimely death of Alvin Lee, who sadly passed away at the age of 68 in Spain.
